Sustainability Initiatives

The issue of sustainability is growing in importance everyday.

It is a delicate and deliberate task to balance the needs of a growing, progressive community with the desire to preserve, enhance, and carefully utilize our limited land, water, and other natural resources.

That’s as true in St. Charles County as it is throughout the St. Louis region and across the globe.

As a leader in the American Heartland, St. Charles County is beginning to take steps to grow more aware and responsible in the crucial area of sustainability.  Some examples in recent years include public and private buildings being constructed to the highest standards of LEED certification.

There has also been the development of new urbanism communities offering mixed use neighborhoods to encourage more walking and less driving.

And the creative use of land, streams, and trails to expand public parkland, encourage more fitness, and protect natural areas within expanding areas of growth.

From recycling and green space to energy-efficient building practices and advanced utility management, sustainability is an issue whose time has come in St. Charles County.

How the area explores and implements best practices in regards to sustainability is up to all of us.  Let’s work on it together!
