Now that the EDC has announced our intention to focus more attention in St. Charles County on attracting and growing green collar jobs and businesses in the Alternative Energy (AE) field, it is important to keep in mind this effort will only succeed as a much larger regional and state-wide effort.

Pursuing a more sustainable economy and community involves transformation at levels ranging from education and zoning to business models and public-private partnerships.

No man is an island, as they say, and the same is true for our community as a submarket in the St. Louis region.

For those who are interested, I want to call your attention to an upcoming “Wind Industry Supply Chain Workshop” planned by the Missouri Partnership at St. Louis Community College – Florissant Valley Campus on Wednesday, April 8, 2009.

Their intent --- like ours --- is to help spark local interest in business-to-business opportunities in the renewable energy industry.
